#12: Rhymes & Reasons Launches His Solo Career in 1969
Denver released his first major-label solo album, Rhymes & Reasons, through RCA Records in 1969. It included his own version of “Leaving on a Jet Plane,” although the album initially attracted limited attention.

Rather than rely entirely on RCA, he mailed promotional copies to radio stations and contacted venues himself. He built an audience through small concerts, college appearances, and direct communication with listeners. That patient groundwork prepared him for the song that would transform his career.
